Hello everyone. I’m Youmi!
As an entrepreneur who started a custom blind box business while studying at a university in Qingdao, China, I’d like to share the story of myself and my small shop today. Back in my college days, I had just downloaded Xiaohongshu – a social media app in China.By chance, I came across a craft blogger’s page.Watching her share the process of packaging the hand-made figurines every day, the focused and joyful look on her face struck a chord in me instantly.I thought to myself: “What a blissful job this is!” You don’t have to work a regular part-time job, and you can do what you love!
So I also began to try making custom products by myself, constantly refining the design of the Youmi figurines.
About the name Youmi: It actually comes from a Ragdoll cat I raised. The year I got her, EDG won the championship – I’m a League of Legends player myself, and Yuumi was the MVP of that championship run!That’s how I named my cat Youmi.
A great start filled me with motivation. The first few customers had amazing experiences. From the initial custom consultation to the final delivery, every step made me feel the joy of running a business.
One customer in particular, named Xiaoxiang, has a story that still touches me deeply to this day. Xiaoxiang first reached out to me to make a birthday gift for her boyfriend. She sent me photos of the two of them and hoped I could turn them into Q-version couple figurines. To be honest, my crafting skills were still not very polished back then.
I could see her pouring all her love into the details as she repeatedly reminded me in our chats:“He loves this Disney plush toy the most” and “This bag has to be included”.I could feel her overwhelming affection,and I was also lucky to be the one to help her convey that love.
When I sent her the finished product,she absolutely loved it and was thrilled. She even framed the figurines as a decoration herself.I bet her boyfriend was over the moon like a little kid when he received it.
At that moment, I suddenly realized: what I’m making is not just figurines.It’s about helping people pass on a precious sentiment.
More than a year later, Xiaoxiang came back to me.This time, it was also for someone important to her.She said: “I want to order two more figurines from you.”
By then, we had upgraded our production techniques.We moved from entirely hand-made crafting to 3D printing.But our original aspiration – to deliver memories with heartfelt care – has never changed.
We’ve come a long way: from a small dorm room in college to our own studio now;from hand-sculpted clay to precise 3D printing;from being inexperienced to having a fully refined production system of our own;from figuring things out alone to building a small team.
Every step we take is guided by the same belief: to let heartfelt sentiments be passed on!!!
We stick to this mission wholeheartedly.Every time we see customers using our works to express their love,and every time we catch a glimpse of the surprise and emotion on the recipients’ faces,I feel that this job is truly meaningful.
